So, my Sarracenias are sitting in trays waiting for their greenhouse. I've used the same compost as I grew them in in the bog: 50/50 sand/sphagnum, with a little bit of moss. Some are an a shallow tray (less than an inch of water), and some are in deep trays (2+ inches of water). The trays naturally collect rain water. Now, the compost in the deep tray sarracenia has started to smell rotten. I'm guessing that the shallow tray allows for rain to wash away the water continually so it doesn't stagnate. Do I need to be worried about the ones that have been sitting in the deep tray? Naturally, I've poured out the stagnant water, but will a flushing of the smelly compost be enough? I'd rather not disturb the roots again this season.
