Last week it was really exciting!
One day I came home late in the evening (about 9:45 pm) and I was tired. I got upstairs to my apartment door and when I wanted to unlock my door I realised there was suddenly a new lock! Someone changed my door lock during my absence! I noticed a folded sheet of paper in the door crack. A message from the police.
"Opening of your flat
Your flat had to be opened by force due to a criminal investigation. The new keys can be collected at the local police station all time against showing your identity card."
Gosh! I was tired and then I had to walk half through my town to the police station to get the new apartment keys..... Oh well, the police have apologised a thousand times for that action but there was a strong suspicion I would grow cannabis!!!!! If I wanted I could call the inspector the next day!
I remember we have made jokes on several fora for years when the police would come to me to control whether I would grow hashish because of my grow lights shining so brightly in my windows! Finally they´ve really come! And they´ve come by force!!
I called the inspector the next day to get to know what caused them to break into my flat! He said to me the police would have already noticed my grow lights for a longer time and they would have also rung my bell. But I would have never opened! Sure...I teach a Mexican friend German for some months and so I am not at home at daytime for some days in a week.
The police checked my electric meter in the staircase and noticed the wheel was running quite fastly. (I run a 250 W mercury vapour lamp for my Lithops!) The inspector told me that would be typical for cannabis growers! And finally I have made myself suspicious because there is no name plate at my apartment door. The police got a judicial decision to open my door and to check what is all the lighting for. I said to the inspector it must have been a bad day for them to realise all the effort was in vain! And further that I can hardly imagine a cannabis grower would be so stupid to install his grow lights so openly that everybody on the streets is attracted by their shine. "I can assure you, there is nothing impossible on this area", the inspector replied to me, "for example we have even met a pot grower who raised his hemp on the balcony on the second floor. Not perhaps on the ground of the balcony, no, in balcony boxes hanging over the balustrade - visible for everyone passing by. And you know that cannabis plants are quite distinctive...." "As you can see there ARE people who raise hemp rather painlessly!" *hrhrhrhrhr*
The inspector told me it was the first time in his 12 year career as a police inspector someone uses a metal hallide lamp NOT for growing cannabis! LOL LOL LOL Waaahhh....somehow this is great fun!
I asked him if I had to expect another check perhaps in a couple of years. In that case it would be useful they call me on my mobile phone before they break my door again! No, the matter would be closed now! Finally the inspector showed great interest for my "cacti" below the mercury vapour lamp. I told him those are flowering stones and they only spend the winter indoors because of frost and the weak light outside. The mercury vapour lamp only runs between December and March or April. Else it would ruin me.... ;o)
So, it took 15 years until the police decided to really take a look what is all my lighting for!
Hope you´ve enjoyed the story!
